What Tests Do I Need to Take?

For testing through 8/18/2024

Early Childhood. As of February 1, 2015, candidates completing preparation or seeking certification in Integrated Early Childhood/Special Education N–K, Elementary Education Grades 1–3 Endorsement (endorsement #113) will be required to take and pass the CTCE Early Childhood (002) test.

Foundations of Reading. Teacher candidates in Connecticut applying for an Elementary Education Endorsement (endorsement #013 or #305), an Integrated Early Childhood/Special Education N–K, Elementary Education Grades 1–3 Endorsement (endorsement #113), or a Comprehensive Special Education Endorsement (endorsement #165) are required to take and pass the Foundations of Reading (190) test, in addition to the current testing requirements as outlined under Early Childhood (above).

Reading Specialist. As of February 1, 2015, candidates applying for a Reading and Language Arts Consultant PK–12 Endorsement (endorsement #097) or Remedial Reading and Remedial Language Arts Grades 1–12 Endorsement (endorsement #102) will be required to take and pass the CTCE Reading Specialist (008) test.

For testing 8/19/2024 and after

Foundations of Reading. Teacher candidates in Connecticut applying for an Elementary Education Endorsement (endorsement #013 or #305), an Integrated Early Childhood/Special Education N–K, Elementary Education Grades 1–3 Endorsement (endorsement #113), or a Comprehensive Special Education Endorsement (endorsement #165) are required to take and pass the Foundations of Reading (890) test, in addition to the current testing requirements as outlined under Early Childhood (above).
